How to Eliminate Unwanted Zoos??

The problem is that one of the rocks used to build my reef (225 g) apparently had a small, rather boring looking zoo on it that I didn't really notice until it multipled....and multipled...and multiplied. The rock the zoo's are on is at the base of the reef and the only way I could reach it by hand would be to break out my snorkle gear...it's also positioned such that I can't really grab them with my "grabber". And because it's pinned under the reef structure, removal isn't an option even if I could reach it.

So, the question to the community is how to eliminate them without impacting the nice, colorful zoos and other critters elsewhere in the tank that I've collected and want to keep...some of which could be removed temporarily, but some are on rocks integral to the reef structure.

I'd really like to get rid of them before they spread any further...they're like a weed growing in there!!

Thanks,
Chris

I'm a little baffled. If they are at the base of the reef, you can't get to them with long tweezers, and you can't remove them because there is obvious rock work above it, then how can you see them? Not being mean, just trying to figure out how much of them are exposed. Are they exposed to any direct light spray?

I hate killing off polyps, however there are times when it has to be down in situations like yours. Using longnose surgical tweezers, you can grab, pinch and twist them and they will die. Or, get a long sryinge with the longest needle possible and inject each unwanted polyp with Joe's juice or scaulding hot water. Be careful as you will only need a little to do the trick and try not to affect any other corals near by. I have used this method unfortunately a few times.

Best of luck my friend.

You can't. No such thing.

By the way, I mean there is no such thing as a zoo predator that will eat only your unwanted zoas. Sundial snails and other fishes will eat zoas indiscriminately.

You can try kalk paste, kinda like killing aiptasia. Shoot it in the mouth.

Thanks for the suggestions...I'll have to work on a delivery method for kalk paste and/or Joe's Juice. I kinda figured that's where the question was leading.

The challenge will be reaching them so I'm not just dosing the whole tank. Looks like the snorkel may be unavoidable after all.

Thanks for your suggestions.

how about just putting something above them that will block the light. i would say if you did this they would be gone in a week or two.

I suppose I could try to stack some rocks immediately above them for a while...see what that does.

If nothing else, it has the potential to think the herd, leaving me fewer troublemakers to dispatch.

Thanks

I wish I could say "the only way I could reach it by hand would be to break out my snorkel gear" when referring to my tank. I have some unwanted polyps will have to try the same thing.

Kalkwasser is a German name for lime water. You can buy Kalk powder or just use Mrs. Wages pickling lime wich can be found in grocery stores. You then mix it with water to make Kalkwasser, Kalk "paste" is just a thicker mixture of lime and water.

I suppose I could crazy glue them, but if I could reach that spot in my tank with a tube of glue, I'd just use my fingers to rip them off the rock.

But I suppose as a general rule, coating zoos in crazy glue would likely kill them, yes.
