how to fix scratches?

some how i have managed to get some rather large scratches on the outside of my nano tank-its glass not acrylic-

i was wondering if anyone had any ideas on to make them go away?

This is a question and not a solution because I don't want you to mess up your tank because of me!

But can't you use a very very high grain sand paper like 2400 or so to do it? I used some to get this foggy crap off of my mustang's head lights and it came out clear and like new.. but you need to sand down the glass to the bottom of the scratch i think.

So can you? (hopefully this helps)

wouldn't that make the glass thinner-weakening my tank? im not really sure im not the handy dandy kind of person-id try it if anyone else can give some insight

No not really. If it is a deep scratch, forget it. But a light scratch and you could probably do it. If it is deep, sanding it down to far could cause it to look distorted.

You could try some polishing compound...It's a hit or miss thing tho. Sometimes it works, sometimes is doesnt.

it just seems like sand paper would scratch it more-im not sure that i understand the technique-but i will give it a try.

If you have something to practice on first i'd recommend that. You can get a feel for what you're sanding (use a separate sheet of paper too you dont want dust to scratch the tank you'll be doing) and how much pressure and what not it takes

the very very fine grain (the higher the number the better) can actually clear up some scratches but if its very deep it can take a little muscle to get it done.

Hey arent mustang headlights made out of somekind of plastic..I used to have one but cant remember. I tried to get scratches out of glass but no luck. If you run your fingernail over it and can feel it then its too deep. I tried eyeglass repair solution and it didnt work either. I even called some pros out but they wouldnt touch the aquarium in fear that it would crack or distort. So light scratches yes...deeper one no.

Yeah they are plastic but I am pretty sure it can work on glass too which is why I was asking

Here's a thought, and this is the poor mans scratch fixer but if its *really* tiny.. as in not deep.. you can try (dont get it in your tank) smearing a little pledge wood polish on it and see if it fills it in. This was an old school trick used on glasses

a cheap way to try it first. If you want I can ask the king of sanding, my dad, how he'd do it ona glass tank before you try
