why would you want to 'force' anyone to do anything... do you want someone to force you to live in Coatia?

are you a control freak?

relax and alow nature to take whatever cource it takes.

im just saying htat i saw a post the other day with someone encouraging thier clowns to host thier bta. i guess forcing is a bad word... how bout "encouraging" them. that is a better word. sorri for the wrong words being used there. thanks for posting though

put a 12 inch grouper in your tank. I reckon it will host pretty quickly.

No seriously, I thought about putting the stimulus of a picture of a large predatory fish up to the glass to see if they have some preconditioned/ inherited behaviour that would make it host due to the imminant threat on its life.
I would NOT do this to any of my fish as they are my pets and i dont like to scare them unnessesarily (however in a reasearch facility I may be tempted).

I went on a clownfish release program here in thailand releasing ocellaris clowns (tank raised) into the wild in cages placed over anemones the cages were there because on previous attempts all the nemos were instantly eaten as they were released from the bags.
anywho these fish that had never seen a nem, were in it in 5 seconds after being put in the cages the reason being the 3 groupers and 4 wrasse that were queueing up outside the cage for an easy lunch!!

thanks.

o i c. thanks for the info... the funny thing was that i have a tomato clown in my other tank. he hosted my other bta like right away, pretty much as soon as he saw it. i was just wondering but i think i understand now. thanks again for the info.

My ocellaris will not get in the bta's, only my leathers and euphillia. oh and green hairy mushrooms.

:) i will try that too!!! thanks again for the inputs. as i recall the other post said something to the sort of cupping the clowns and anem into a smaller area or something of that sort. not using a cup but one of the breeding nets or something. thanks again

In my 125 I have three nems and two clowns. So far it's been several months that the clowns have been ignoring all of the nems completely. They will host on their own schedule if they ever host at all. At his point I've given up on mine.

Please please do not put a mantis shrimp in your tank if that's what you were responding to.... please..

ooo i c now. your supposed to push the clown into the anem's mouth. i just had him superglued to the tenticals. i will try that tonite. thanks again

i read 1 guy coaxed his clownfish into his BT by using a clear acrylic rod at night, slowly nudging him closer to the anemone, till he jumped in.

im going to be doing this pretty soon as i just picked up a RBTA, going to wait a few weeks for it to acclimate more though before putting it through some stress from the clownfish.

i made a giant couch out of red felt filled with styrofoam balls to look like an anemone, then dressed up like a clownfish and spent three consecutive days rolling around in the giant couch for 9 hours each day.

He still doesn't host but he sure looks at me funny now

Truth is the best scientific evidence today hints at a chemical relationship between the fry and their specific host anemone, anywhere from 1 to 10 anemone's can be hosts to a given species.

If they dont host, you can't do a damned thing about it. I have two skunks that host my LTA, but my B/W Occ. only hosts the poweread bottom of all places to sleep.
