How to frag a toadstool leather???

Hi, I have a toadstool leather that's getting out of hand. I was wondering how you frag something like this? Do you cut the bottom off like a tree stump? Or do you cut it right in half from the top of the mushroom down to the foot? I doubt it's the second way, but if it'll work, will the mushroom part start to look round again after a while, or will it forever stay looking like a half circle? Please excuse my ignorance.

AFAIK both methods you described will work. You can also cut sections from the crown and allow them to grow.

I have had good luck slicing from the top to the stump. I then use the piece of stump to wrap the frag on to a rock with an elastic band. The polyps will come back out in a couple of days. They will grow round again but it takes a couple of months.

If the the sacro is large enough, you can cut an entire band of the crown & then make individual frags from that. This way the original colony keeps it shape & you can get multiple frags.Picture looking down on the head of the coral & cutting a band of tissue approx 1" wide or so,around the entire circumference. The end result is you remove, what looks like a "hoop" shaped piece of the coral, that can then be cut into sections for frags.HTH

Here's a frag I just got from a reefer buddy. He just cut a bit off the top. You can see where the cut portion is attaching itself to the rock. The polyps were out in less than a day. Seems to be doing well. Hopefully it will take the classic toadstool shape. :)
