How to get a Pair

Was just wondering where most people find a mated pair of anything? (Looking into false percula maybe...) Or do you mate them out of a group?

Any info and sources greatly appreciated! :)

Buying two juveniles tends to produce a pair. You will have some cases where it won't work but it works a very high percentage of the time.

If you are sure that you want false percs then two juveniles will work darn near every time.

do you think 1.5" is long enough to be sexually mature...? ive had it for 4 months and it was about 3/4"-1" when i got it... because i read that article and i noticed when i was working in the tank yesterday my ocellaris was doing the 'rush forward to attack, and then stop, backup and repeat' thing described in the article there...

I wouldn't know from the size of it whether it is sexually mature or not but it sounds like it might be a female now based on the amount of growth over 4 months. Now all you need to do it put a juvenile in with it and you should have love birds/fish. I have never had any trouble with ocellaris. Maybe someone else will chime in.

Having a female is ok, you just want to make sure that you aren't putting two females together. Adding a juvenile prevents this from happening.

Good luck.

yea im going to get an onyx from rod.. those are def still juvi.. they are still growing in their tail stripe..

You know that the onyx clowns are true percs and not ocellaris right? Just thought I would mention it. I don't see a problem with having a mixed species pair, you might end up with some pretty cool offspring if you ever get them to spawn.

I always trie to get a bunch of juvenile fish and then let them sort out the strongest pair. After they occupied their place and defend it against others I move the couple to another tank. With this I want to ensure that I have the best gens - survival of the fittest ala Darwin.

Of ocurse this procedure requires quite some tanks and quick action in case of fighting to safe bullied fish from more harm.
