Hi is anyone trying to breed clown fish? I like to find out how to get Black Ice Snowflake from breeding 2 different types of clown fish .I can not find clear answer about that on the Internet.
I find out 2 option please correct me if I'm wrong I will appreciate every comment
Option #1 Black Ocellaris ( black and white stripe )+ Snowflake =Black Ice Snowflake
Option #2 Onyx A.Percula + Snowflake = Black Ice Snowflake
I really like to find out please respond.
If you can post same pictures that be wonderful
Thanks in advance

Often wondered this myself. Option 2 would result in a hybrid which may or may not be able to procreate itself (think of a donkey/jackass situation). It would be good info to have before purchasing a "breeding" pair but I get that you're looking to make them from scratch.

They are pricey so I like to start from the scratch can not afford breeding pair.looking for right answer which young ones I have to buy so they will produce Black Ice Snowflake
It is very hard to find straight answer :reading: :headwally:

I can't add the link but do a google search for sustainable aquatics black ice ocellaris. You can find some info on *****

I was at my LFS yesterday and they had a beautiful ORA Snowflake available along with a fresh shipment of dozens of ORA Black Occy's. This got me thinking about this thread. So here is my next question.

Which fish should preferably be the female?

Option 1: Female Snowflake x Male Black Occellaris
Option 2: Female Black Occellaris x Male Snowflake

Thoughts?

Female black O. Then ditch the male and mate her with her own baby.

Not to answer my own question but after a couple hours of research this is the best I've come up with...

A guy paired a Female Black with a Male Snowflake and got offspring that looked a little "muddy". He supposedly named them "s'mores" prior to ORA releasing the first generation of "black ice snowflakes". He later took to calling them both "s'mores" and "black ice snowflakes" when he sold them.

The ORA version really does look different. Instead of a muddy colored clown you get thick black bars similar to what appears in solomon island perculas. That's the variation I'd be interested in producing.

It might nothing is for sure depend on individual clownfish.
But what i described gets you closer to the all black snowflake which is my personnal perference.

The thickest black bar snowflakes usually come from the snowflake O. bred with onyx percula or "snow onyx" hybrids

So I picked these up today. Snowflake is SA, Black Misbar is ORA. They're in quarantine for a couple of weeks before I move them to their 15 gallon claypot/BTA love shack. I don't want to get my hopes up but they seem to have taken to each other instantly. Snowflake appears in charge and the Black Misbar Occy is following her around like a sick puppy. I'd estimate them both to be under a year.
