how to get rid of an air lock

ok, i got most of my tank together now, i ran into a few challenges, but i was able to overcome them, the only one that i have now, is how to get rid of an airlock in your overflow tube, i been sucking on the hose trying my hardest to get the water to flow, but it just does not flow, my other over work perfect, suck the air out and water flows freely, shut the power off and it stops, now as for the other over flow line it just sits there, so i am guessing its an air lock. anyway please let me know what you may think i can do to over come this.

thanks

Take the tube out and use Saran wrap on one side of the tube. Dunk the tube to fill it up and flip it over to the overflow box. Make sure there's water in the box so the tube stays filled. Remove the Saran wrap.

this solution will not work in my application, as my overflow it goes to my sump and everything below is connected to that one tube, i been trying everything that i can think of,,,,,,,,, but thanks for the advice, any more please feel free to share

I think the way you start that syphon is by using the vent part (black cap?). You can pour water in to prime the tube or hold your hand over the vent to block. To pull air out of the line you can either suck water up from the sump or put airline tubing in the drain side and remove some air. Once the siphon starts keep your hand in place and the velocity of the flow will pull out the airlock. When the syphon is going you just unblock and air will slow the water flow.

This set up is an inexpensive DIY option when drilling the tank is not an option like when a tank's panes are made from tempered glass.
