how to get rid of zoo's

Ok, since I think most people in this forum love zoo's you make not like this thread. I started out some years back with only zoo's and mushrooms, I was so happy when they started to grow and spread. Now, I am changing to a 125 that I want to be 99% SPS, only I have zoo's all over my LR. I have a few large colonies that I will trade, but I prolly have 10 big pieces of LR with under 20 polyps that are trying to take hold. I need to keep those LR, but not the zoanthids on them. My first thought was to take out the LR and scrubb them with a tooth brush or something. Any suggestions.

i say chip a little piece of the rock off or carefully scrape them off with a razorblade and then mail them to me =]

I could be wrong here but zoo's have not bothered my SPS. Get some cap frags and superglue them above the zoo's to shade them and slow their growth. they can coexist. If you get an expensive frag like an Oregon tort just glue that frag in an area where it wont be bothered. Good luck. Michael R

I think there may be a few people out there with Sundial snails they don't want...They seem to be pretty effective at killing zoos, as I found out.

The sundial I found is "sleeping with the fishes" (so to speak), but others may have a few live ones.

I say chisel a lil' bit of the LR out from under the zoos, very effective method IME.

Turn some of your zoa covered rocks over. That will kill a lot of them.

I agree with Tracking down some sundials snails, they are easy to spot and can be moved to the zoa colonies you don't want, and they are eating machines

SHOULD be able to scrape them off. but if that doesn't work, try using the Dawn Scrubber, or injecting them with Lemon juice in a syringe.

I would recommend selling the zoo rock to someone local and replacing it with some new pretty Tonga. Any reason why you are opposed to replacing your live rock?

i was thinking the same thing. i bet a novice reefer would kill for a piece or two of coralline encrusted zoo rock to kick start their reef
