How to get true color?

Just started taking some pics of my tank and I'm having a hard time getting the true looking color.

What are you shooting with?
I have found that in order to get the best color you need to use a tripod and turn off your flash.

look up how to white balance your camera and that should take care of the problem.

Just have an older 2.1 MP Hewlett Packard Camera. I started reading the photo tips section in this forum and white balance was probably the reason since I was taking pics under a 14K MH bulb. The white balance is not manually adjustable except choosing like sun, shade etc. So I'd be better withe shade setting correct?
