How to glue Frags

Hi Everyone,

Sorry to ask a noob question, but I am new to SPS keeping (more experienced with Softies & LPS).

My new tank has been setup for 5 months now and is doing fabulously. Cycle has been done for awhile, algae phases are done, and readings are great.

With this tank, my goal has been to use as little wild caught creatures as possible. Therefore, I used dead rock from Marco's rock and then seeded it with multiple Nano pieces from various vendors. I did the same thing with the sand. In addition, I ordered the full detrivore kits from Inland & IPSF. My tank has tons of life and I had so many pods, my wife called it the "bug tank". Of course when I added fish a month ago (2 false percs, 2 Bangaii Cardinals, & a sixline wrasse {all captive bred}), they thought that they were in heaven

:D

So, I added a small Frag (Montipora Digitata). It is doing very well (I dose DT's every other day) and it is actually growing a new branch towards the top.

Now to my question:

The frag came attached to one of those white plugs. I would like to permanently attach it to a very large piece of Tonga Shelf rock that it is on now. Now all of the frag gels that I have seen are not for under the water, Does anyone know one that is or a way to glue it to the rock without having to have both out of the water to do it ??

Thanks,

I had no problems following SDguys instructions, works everytime:

I use aquamend and superglue gel with 100% success every time. Here's what I do. Knead a small amount of epoxy completely. Remove frag from water and pat dry area to be glued with a paper towel. Add superglue gel to that area. Next squish kneaded epoxy ball onto that same area. Add superglue gel to opposite side of epoxy ball. Place underwater. A skin will form over the gel. Squish the epoxy ball onto desired live rock location, making sure to breeak the skin on the superglue gel. Hold for a few seconds. Done.

Note, the live rock surface that will receive your frag must be detritus and algae free. Also, larger frags, colonies mounted at weird angles might require more glue/epoxy simply due to their weight.

IME Reefdood's method is good for really small frags (1" or less), and I've had to use more than "a drop" of glue :)

Also, montis slime up pretty good, so sometimes they aren't the easiest to attach.

I use the same method of drying and then a drop or two of glue and then quickly the the rock.

Good Luck
Tony
