How to grow zoas?

In a ntshell, if I want my zoanthids to grow/multiply, what should I do? Thanks,

snorkeler (new to the hobby, with 2 small zoa colonies in tank)

just give it time, stable parameters, and good light. also good parameters. thats pretty much how everything works in this hobby

What would "good parameters" mean? Pls would you give me some examples or ranges you consider good? Thx,
Snorkeler

You could feed for faster growth too. Most polyps will take smaller foods with some meat to them like Cyclops and things of that nature. I have had good success with growth because of feeding my zoanthids.

I had the same question as the OP. You see such beautiful tanks with the zoas intermingled and spread out. It seems like my frags stay frags for some reason. I do feed cyclopeeze and dts, parameters are good, and have T5 lighting. I guess I just don't have a Zoa Thumb. GSP and Anthalia grow like wild fire for me but not zoas.

Kinda weird but some of my zoas multiple substantially slower than others. My pinks came with 4 polyps about 2 months ago and still have 4, while my blues started with 3 and are now 13-14 polyps.

As far as i know zoos do NOT eat meat, what you need to worry about is feeding the zooxanthellae with phytoplankton.

I have several type and some grow slower than others.

give them time and you see how in 2 months they will split 2or3 times per polyp.

read around and you'll see how they act, also, dosing iodide and vitamin c is very good for them, I use brightwell aquatics.

Some of mine grow like crazy anywhere in my tank, while others have to be moved several times just to get them to open, yet alone grow.

Great info. Most people have good growth with fragging to entice new growth, proper lighting, mild/moderate flow, feeding the proper food and stability. I know these things work for me. If you are looking for good food try Rods, Reef-Roids, and Coral Frenzy. They really made a difference in my tank.

Thanks for the links; lots more good info linked within the links LOL!

You are welcome. Every so often I come across some great info and I bookmark it to pass along at a later time.

I have been experimenting with zoa placement. I have them placed all over the tank with different distances between colonys. I have seen a noticable difference in growth speed when aprox 1 inch to 1.5 inches are between colonys. The growth I've seen is really remarkable imo. Probly about 3-5 new polyps per month when close and 1 new polyp if I'm lucky when there is a great distance. I'm guessing it may be a natural competition for space thing going on. Just some food for thaught.
