How to increase salinity?

Hey Reefers,

How would I go about increasing salinity?

I'm at 1.023-024 and would like to get it to 1.025-026.

I'm due for a water change so would this be the right time?

I would use freshly made SW @ 1.026 as top off until you get to your goal, then go back to plain RO/DI water.

You are still cycling too so there is really no harm in just dumping some salt right into the tank as there is nothing in there..
But yes the above answers are the typical way when you have stuff in your tank already..

Actually my cycle has been done for 2 weeks plus now. I have 2 O clowns, 10 snails, 4 hermits, a cleaner shrimp, rose bulb tip anemone and a hairy pincushion urchin. Oh and a Zoa frag.

So I will use the ATO with 1.026 to increase it.

Confused you with another guy..

and you do know that ATO should be freshwater right? salt doesn't evaporate...
Its fine to replace the fresh with higher salinity saltwater just to raise the SG but I just wanted to make sure you knew ATO water should be fresh water not saltwater..

Yes, I have my ATO hooked up to a 35g bin of fresh RO/DI :)

Thanks for making sure though!

I personally would just do a 10% WC with 1.027. I've done this numerous times now. If it's only one or two points, it won't matter much.

I would just let it be. IME, it will creep up a bit over time anyway. I use water change day to re-adjust it to where I want it. And fwiw - I try to keep it at 1.024 ish so that if it does creep up a bit it doesn't get too high.

+1 you are so close I would just let it creep up. If you do mix more salt water I would make it higher but not by a lot. It's more important that you don't have a big change is SG then it is that you have the number spot on.
