i just bought a new 120 gallon reef ready tank and im thinking of putting in a closed loop and i have no idea how it should work. im thinking that the holes or inlet for the closed loop should be inside the overflow.. anyone have any experience or advice so i head in the right direction? any advice appreciated b/c im very new to this concept. oh also it will be for an sps tank and i want to have lots of flow. so recomendations on what pump/size would be good. thanks.

ok heres what you are gonna need to do order a 2" bulkhead put that halfway down and in the middle of the tank on the back side then put a strainer on it so no fish etc get sucked in. Then plumb that to a reef flo dart 3600gph pump...pricey but AWESOME flow also its silent. run that out of there and (optional) "run the output thru an ocean motions water diverter"... to create random flow or just divert thru a PVC T and run that back into the tank near the top thru either 1" or 1.5" bulk heads and put locline on em so that you can direct your flow. then if you want even more H20 movement you can put eductors on there to suck in surronding H20. and that my friend would be awesome! (i have that set up on my 110 and everyone loves it

thanks for the advice. ill look into that. my only issue is getting holes drilled.. i have never done that and im a little hesitant to drill the tank.

get a diamond drill bit (online) or a tile drill bit(hardwarestore) ... its not that difficult to make the hole... let the drill do the work and dont force the cut.. use water to cool down the bit.. i have made many holes in glass tanks and its pretty easy... diamond drill bit is alot easier to use and cuts better
