how to post a picture

Hi, I've been on RC for a while, but can't figure out how to post an image on a thread. I figured how to post a link to a picture in my gallery, but that's not what I want. I'm trying to make it so that my image shows up directly on the thread. I've done a search for posting images, but have found nothing, although I'm sure this issue has been addressed before. I would practice, but I don't want to waste thread space. Thanks,

Nate

Ok, I clicked on the "IMG" button and then pasted the URL for the picture in photobucket that I wanted. It is still a link though, I want the picture to be able to pop up automatically when someone looks at the thread. I don't want people to have to click on a link. How can I do this?

Sure you can. First, get the URL of the picture. You can do this by right clicking on the image, choose Properties, triple clicking the place where the url is (triple clicking assures you have everything. Sometimes some of the URL is hidden), right click the highlighted URL, and copy.

Now that you have the URL, come back on Reef Central. Place some image tags down, and paste the URL between them. For example, say I wanted to post the Reef Central logo located at the top left of this forum, follow the advice given, and what you have should look like this (without the period in the image tags):

[.img]http://reefcentral.com/forums/images/logo.jpg[./img]

Once you take the periods out of the image tags, it will look like this:

You copied the url of the adress that shows the picture. You need the url of the picture itself which is....

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r225/naterealbig/IMG_1203.jpg

***Caution: Reef Central Vbulletin program that runs this site automatically truncates long URLs to save space. To see the full URL, you can click the Quote Button (
quote.gif
), scroll down and find the URL, and copy the full URL. You'll have to either backtrack to the page you want if you want to paste the URL for some purpose, or if you just want to view the URL paste it in the Address bar on your internet browser.

How do I find the URL for the actual picture? Do I just need to know which part of the URL to delete? Still confused. I appreciate your help by the way.

Hmm.... I don't know where you got the "?t=1166029682" at the end of it from. The url should always end with the filename and filetag. For example. ReefCentral.jpg, Naterealbig.gif, TravisStevens.bmp, and so on. Copy and paste what's below and delete the period in the image tag

There you go! Don't use the automatic Image Placer in the reply if you already have the image tags. The auto-placer will put image tags around the URL for you.

I got it. I went to (on the photobucket website) to the colum to the right of the picture labled "IMG CODE" and copied and pasted that "link". I worked. Is there another way to do it? Lets say I wasn't using such a "user friendly" photo hosting site.

Now try this:

Post the sponsor's banner at the top of the page.

Using the Quick Reply at the bottom of the page.
1) Right Click the banner
2) Choose "Properties". A new window will open.
3) Triple click the address next to "Address (URL)". The whole address should be highlighted
4) Right Click on the highlighted address and choose Copy
5) Close out the window, and scroll to the bottom of the page
6) Type in the Image Tags ([.IMG][./IMG]) Capitalization doesn't matter, but it's great for orginaizing. Don't add the periods. If I placed Image Tags without the periods, the forum would attempt to place an image and the Image Tags would disappear.
7) Paste the URL between the tags
8) Submit Reply

Using the Auto Placement in the Post Reply section.
1) Right Click the banner
2) Choose "Properties). A new window will open.
3) Triple click the address next to "Address (URL)". The whole address should be highlighted
4) Right Click on the highlighted address and choose Copy
5) Close out the window, and scroll to the bottom of the page
6) Click the "IMG" Button
7) Paste the URL or type it in and Click OK. The URL should automatically be placed at the bottom of the post with image tags around it
8) Submit Reply

A few quick notes to make things quicker:
Ctrl+C = Copy
Ctrl+V = Paste

Here is what is currently the Sponsor on the page:
