How to pronounce Kole Tang?

I just added a Kole tang to my aquarium and was wondering if anyone knows the correct pronunciation for kole. I have always thought the E was silent (kol) but my LFS store seemed to be pretty certain that the correct way to say it is Koleeee. Anyone know? Thanks

While most all of the industry pronunces it like the "cole" from cole slaw, this is incorrect... Kole is one of the Hawaiian names for surgeonfish... Ctenochaetus strigosus has the Hawaiian name Kole maka onaona... it's common name came from that and it is endemic to Hawaii (and Johnston)... and is the second most exported fish from Hawaii behind the yellow tang...

Yep. Though I'll admit to dropping the second syllable when I'm feeling particularly lazy, or if I don't feel like explaining it to a group of people who are pronouncing if the proper way.

Me too. Never even crossed my mind that it could be pronounced different.
