How to QT Flame Angel?

How do you quarantine and medicate Flame angelfish? I've read that they are extremely sensitive to copper, so how would I go about treating them for ICH?

Use TTM for Ich instead of copper. You could also go with hypo-salinity but I heard it's a PITA.

The flame angel often does not eat well quickly and not when disturbed.

12-14 more days of poor nutrition during TT right after capture and transport is often enough to kill it if only later.

If one where to use TTM, one should make sure it first adapts well to food and recover from poor nutrition. Makes sure that it rebuilds its reserves of nutrients.

I find it to be less tedious and less expensive than copper treatment. It just really depends what the issue is because hypo-salinity is only effective against Cryptocaryon (ich) and nothing else.

Less expensive? Perhaps (but we're talking $10-15 here). Less tedious? Absolutely not. :p

If your salinity raises by even 0.001 (from 1.009 to 1.01) the clock resets on the hypo and you have to start all over. This can easily happen in a 5-20 gallon QT in a surprisingly short time due to evaporation. Not to mention the tales of some ich strains being resistant to hypo. Personally, I wouldn't bother with hypo unless you have your QT equipped with an ATO, especially when TTM is generally more effective and easier to control, but that's just me. :deadhorse:

With all these different methods and fish sensitive to copper or this or that and TTM. It seems that in order to have a nice DT with a wide variety of fish one would need to have 3-4 QT tanks setup.......just saying, seems like a lot. I.e- copper tank, 2x tanks for ttm + main tank....
I know if you wanna do something do it right but all this seems like its never ending with trying to prevent different diseases with different fish.

For TTM, I only have the tanks out of my attic and with water in them when I need them, they do not need to be cycled and can use fresh salt water since you move the fish every 3 days. I use two 5 gallon tanks I got for like $10 each. Others just use 5 gallon buckets but I find the aquariums to be better as I can view the fish more clearly.

As for copper, after running it you use carbon to "suck it out" so you don't need a "copper QT" and a "non copper QT" unless you are keeping rocks and sand in them (which you shouldn't be anyway). I also only have this tank out of the attic and set-up when I need to use it; You can keep a sponge in your DT (as long as it's parasite-free) and use it to "seed" the QT for an "instant" cycle.
