How to remove palys attached to LR inside tank

Hi,

Anyone have experience or know that is okay to cut/remove palys that are attached to LR.

My tank is 30 gal and i'm concerned with toxins releasing into the tank while doing so. My approach might be to remove 1-2 heads at a time per week.

Thanks!

Take a razor blde and cut them at point where they attach to the rock. I would do this outside the tank if it is a larger colony. If only a few it should be ok inside the tank. If you do it outside the tank use caution with your hands, eyes and breathing it in.

Don't get to close and wear protective eye wear just in case. And don't touch your face with your hands
until cleaned. Some Zoa/paly can product a slim that can give us a really bad reaction!!

When cutting zoas, I always cut a small chunk of rock where the zoas are attaching to. It gives the zoas a lot better chance to survive. I'm too scared to damage the base of the zoas.

Try to siphon the water close to polyp you're removing to export the released internal fluids from the polyps. That would help you to avoid the presence of toxins in the system. Take advantage to do water change. Go slow, like every week doing max. 5 polyps.

Thanks for all the input - I will use the aforementioned method of removal inside the tank. A 15% water change will follow - cutting at the base of the paly, removing 1-3 heads per week given the small volume of water they reside in.

I've got the same thing going on in my tank. How come it's always the ugly palys that pop up? Has anyone had really nice looking ones just appear?

Just use a junk dull kitchen knife to dig just under the paly/zoa and get it off the live rock. You don't need to only do a couple, get them all done at once and be done with it.

Doing small numbers at a time will prevent excess of toxins in such a small system.
When we try to help others we assume they don't have any experiences in what they need to do, so it's a precaution. :)

I dig a piece of rock out from under the pally/zoa using the tip of a razor blade with a back and forth twisting movement. LR is pretty soft for a rock and very brittle. I'd also say do it all at once. If you don't game the polyp it won't release anything at all. It will only close up.
