How to replace center-brace with glass?

I have a 46g bowfront, and I want to buy a MH fixture, but almost all of the fixtures place the bulb in the middle.
Is there anyway to remove my plastic brace and replace it with something clear ?

thanks

I'm in the same situation, with a 46 bow.

There was a thread arround a while ago where they used acrylic and nylon screws.

Basically they cut the brace out leaving an inch or so on each end, and drill and use nylon bolt/nut to secure the acrylic strip to the tab from the old brace.

I think if/when I get arround to it, I'd also want to put some epoxy inbetween the acrylic and tank frame, but thats just me.

Maybe you can find the original thread if you search for it.

I'm in the same boat with 29 bow I'm thinking of buying. The center brace is the only thing holding me back from buying it.

ok take it as it's worth i have a 2 120gal tanks and i cut mine off and used the acrylic and nylon screws.and havent had no problems at all BUT you guys have bow fronts I've been told the fronts are not too stronge once you cut the braces off and besides how strong do you actually thing acrylic and nylon screws.
would hold.right. my first 120gal i bought from a guy in the club and he had it done so i just left it alone but sice i bought another one i've done the same cause the brace got in the way of the moonlights

i think you maybe out of luck with the bow fronts, im not sure im no pro at glass, but if you had a rectangle you could euro brace and then remove the black plastic. i suppose you could do it if a glass shop would cut the glass to your radius but thats probably $$$. im in a similar - i have a 180 split in 3rds by black plastic. when i have some extra money im going to euro it.

actually i was thinking of using glass only - you could probably use acrylic and use weldon and shape it to the correct radius and cut to the right length and glue it to the black frame where its recessed in for a glass top. id just make it wider than the brace thats there. Thats from front to back too just like the exsisting brace. the weldon is supposed to be super strong and it should do the trick

You know you electrician's should have your own sticky thread in this forum to offer advice just like they acrylic guys have. I think it would be really helpful to have quick access to a thread like that.

I got a 75 gal that had the center brace melted out of it, me and my dad cut it off leavning roughly 1/2"-3/4" and took two pieces of stainless steel and screwed them into the 1/2" we left on there, tank doesn't bow at all....
