How to siphon/take crap out of the sump?

Hello veteran reefer, I'm sure you guys have some ingenious way of transporting the crap (including small gravel) out of the sump. Since it's at ground level, siphoning is not possible. I used a pump and took out the detritus, but the gravel & small pieces of chaeto from the fuge got stuck in the pump. Please advise. Thanks.

I use a big turkey baster to siphon out the stuff but it takes forever. Other times, I'll just take the whole sump out and clean it... but that's only once or twice a year. You should try to prevent the crap from getting to the sump in the first place... filter socks (if you use them) or have compartments in your sump so it's isolated to one chamber.

you could alway try a wet/dry vac.
