How to take care of clams

Right now 4x65 watt PCs in my 55. We have a 125 thats going up in April when we move at which time we have 6x96 watt PCs. I asked about the Derasa's and Squamosa's because I know they're lower light clams. Thanks for the input

10-4 on the reactor, I plan on getting one as soon as my supply of 2-part run out! I have to add 30-40 ml of ea. a day. I am looking at the MRC-2 real hard.

Tell you what...I was runing a 15 gallon with a 15 g sump, and had 6 or 8 SPS frags, 2 small maximas and a 3 inch squamosa which were all growing. I was dosing Kalk 24/7 and adding something rediculous like 60ml or B-Ionic a day to try to keep those levels up....it was NUTS! Anyway, I just about had it and got a MRC Nano reactor...I now test every 2 or 3 weeks for CA/ALK (as opposed to every day before!)

Don't forget about ALK. Make sure at least it's 10-12 dkh....mucho important :) After you get a clam, monitor carefully (every other day or so) They suck it all right out of the water!

do we want to take up the whole bristleworm embroglio here? They tend to scare people new to clams when they nestle/hide around the bottom edges of a clam shell...

how often do you feed your clams and how much, please give you tank and sump size, and corals in these tanks, thanks! The reason I ask is that I grow my own phyto, and have really gotten good at it. I guess I want to make sure I am not over doing the feeding. I have a 4-5 inch derasa, a 4-5 inch diameter yellow toadstool, a 3-4 inch regular toadstool, a 2-3 kenyan tree, and I believe those are the only corals that would consume phyto, the rest, like some zoo's a montipora, etc do not consume it. I have a 37G main tank with a 15G refugium. Lighting is a 250 watt 14K hamilton halide with 2X64 03 actinics, and a 64 watt 10,000K powercompact for the refugium lighting. thanks again!

I have had my clam now for a few weeks and it is doing great. Since it is over 3" it does not rely on phytoplankton but it still gets some from the tank. The clam is from www.clamsdirect.com and the owner is very nice and helped me with their care and which to select. Here's a photo:
