soooo for the life of me I cannot take any pictures of the tank with my iphone.

How do you guys take pictures with yours? I know they were never be really good pictures, but mine end up being so bad you cannot see anything. I have a sunpower t5 8 bulb if that matters on how to take the pictures.

I have searched the photography thread and couldnt really find anything, so I am wondering what you guys do. I am not asking to take macro pictures or anything but I would like to be able to take some of the frags and so forth.

I don't have an iPhone but I know that many who do use gel filters bought off ebay for a few bucks to get rid of the overly blue look.

Your solution is here. Check out my post below. In summary, gel filters for color and a camera app that allows for manual focus to better "focus" of your corals. You can even do macro pictures if you get the clip on lenses. I have a nice DSLR, but I rarely use it these days.

Most days I take pictures like the one below using my Nexus 5X and everything I have mentioned above.

Good luck!

Using orange gel filters, clip on macro lens and my Nexus 5X. Not professional quality by any standard, but more than fine for me.

With and without film gel

With and without film gel

I hope this picture helps. This is my tank running only violet/blues with a sheet of orange gel film laying against the front glass. I took this with my iphone and you can clearly see the difference. Most cameras, even DSLRs, can't handle the low light spectrum without a filter.

It is not as simple as that. The filter color will depend on your specific light setup. I would get this filter book, which comes with all the filter numbers and once you play with all the orange ones and find the one that works for your tank, then you can buy a larger version of that number.

Thanks just ordered this. I bought an orange filter that screwed onto my dslr lens but it only made everything look orange/red. Hope the swatch book has the right shade.

It made stuff in the tank look orange/red? Should have affected contrasting colors.
