How to take pictures?

I am new at trying to photograph corals and need all the help I can get. I see pictures that are simply amazing and want to be able to get that kind of quality shot but have no idea how to do it. I imagine the first thing I need to do is get a better camera. Do you take pictures thru the glass or from the top down? Do you use a holding tank just for pictures so there's not so much water to shoot thru?

the most importand thing in photography is Lighting Lighting Lighting, and composition, and third is Lighting, learn to use the light, and you can do wonders.
