what do u use to tighten a bulkhead in a tight spot?

all other bulkheads i tighten by hand, but this one is near a corner and i cant get a good grip on it.. All the wrenches i have are too small to get a grip. its a 1 1/2 inch bulkhead

plumbers wrench..

hey where are you in Monrovia.. i am going to be moving out there next month...

I use XXl Channel lock pliers, just 1/4 turn past hand tight

i only have the XL version :( .. u happen to know anyone near monrovia w/ an XXL set of pliers :D

worse comes to worse try an oil filter wrench, sometimes they're just right... but I think your bulkhead might be too small for that.

home depot has a funky looking channel lock set for about $17 that will get in just about anywhere.. if you are leaking, you may be overtight.. those things are finicky

im pretty sure this one isnt overtight, i had trouble trying to reach it to get it tightened. its a bulkhead in a corner of the sump .... behind the overflow return.... under the CL plumbing..

long story short.. i should of thought this one through a bit better before i started.. ha

on the bright side.. i just finished plubming everything and only 3 leaks, one on the bulkhead and two on the Dart pump (input and output). these may be overtightened. anyone else run into leaks on their Dart in/outlets?

the Dart inlet and outlet will leak like a sieve if you try to use teflon tape. Use tons of teflon paste instead, on both the male and female side, and tighten the **** out of it with some channel lock pliers..

does teflon paste work similar to teflon tape.. aka, its not a "glue", so when i need to pull apart a connection, its pretty simple (just like using teflon tape)?

It comes apart .... it never dries. Works sooo much better than tape...\

thanks bill, i sealed with silicone for now. i tried unscrewing the bulkhead to reinstall it, but i couldnt even get it loose. The leak is small, so i hope the silicone will seal it.

If it doesnt work, ill give u a ring to borrow the wrench.

if you cant get it loose, it is plenty tight. could be that it is too tight and gasket is pinched, or the whole could be a bit too big, and th gulkhead is sitting on the bottom of the hole, i.e. the plastic threads are resting ont he glass, and the top of the how is just barely sealed to the glass at the top.

Can you tell where the water is coming from? Top or bottom?

Also, if you tighten too much, you will either crack the bulkhead or the glass, either way would not be good...

Crossing my fingers on the silicone...

Bill

yea!! silicone worked. i siliconed the inside and outside of the bulkhead w/ Silicone I. Filled it and left it overnight, no leaks this morning! so glad.. ive finally started filling the tank w/ RO water.!
