How to treat Drywall....

I am going to build out a portion of the garage for a grow out system, with holding water for my tanks, etc. This stuff will be up against the wall, lots of air pumped in, so salt creep will be an issue.

I want to treat, or cover my drywall with something so that I can hit it with a hose to clean every now and again.

What can I cover my walls with that may look good, cost less and work well? Ok, looks are not that important.

Maybe use cement board(for bathrooms) and paint a few coats of exterior paint....
Just a thought

I am looking at GlasLiner FRP panels. It is a bit pricey, at $30 for a 8x4 sheet. I would need 5 sheets. That is $150 plus the stuff to attach it. That should get the job done and is not to expensive, I guess.

I just refinished my bathroom and used a nice product. Forgot the name unfortunatly, but Lowes has it. Its waterproof drywall, has a fiberglass surface and no paper. Was priced similarr to regular drymall..cuts nice..works easy..and very flat and stiff. Easier to work with than concrete board..and cheaper. Comes in 4'x8' sheets.

I JUST GOT REFINISHING MY STEEL STAND WITH HERCULINER THAT IS GOOOD STUFF IT SMELLS LIKE A$$ BUT IS WATER PROOF

I am sealing with 2 coats of Kilz Oils Based....

The debate is do I need anything more than that?

I am thinking of a HARD oil based enamel over that.

Yes your going to need more than just primer and paint. If your going to be hosing it down, then you need to look for a different material, paint breathes and will cause mold, mildew, etc... I can tell you from many bathroom remodels that drywall and water don't mix no mater what the covering is made of.

You also need to think of the potential for problems if you ever decide to move, make sure what ever you do, you will be able to remove and repair easily. I always like to think of that aspect, considering not everyone is going to want a grow out system in their homes, like we do!!!

What about a heavy mil plastic or something that you could hang up over the primed and painted drywall? If you ever need to move it, it's as simple as taking it down...

yea a heavy mil plastic may be a good idea. I am looking at epdm, but I do not want black. I see some talk of white epdm online, now to try and find it.

tile board at home depot $19. a 4x8 the stuff they use in rv showers. come in plain white. also makes a good dry erase marker board.

hummmm... the only board I saw at HD was $30 each...I have to go looking, yet again... although I think I will go with the plastic liner thing.
