How to waterproof your stand with an active system

I just wanted some input if anyone has tried to waterproof your stand while your system is actively running. My LFS setup my system a while ago and told me that it should do fine. I have had some minor water damage and don't think it's as waterproof as my LFS has said. I wanted to know what is the safest way to do this while a system is actively running. I thought of beeswax (spelling?) but was cautious of using polyurithane.

Go to home depot ask them for a water proof poly. Every time it gets wet dry it or it still will stain

you would need to remove the sump to coat underneath. Once the sump was out, it makes painting a breeze without worrying about dripping something in the tank. spar urethane would be good. I wouldn't worry about any vapors as long as you had a fan and some fresh air.

I put some vinyl carpet runner that I bought by the foot from the local Menards. Bought enough for the length of the standplus an extra foot. this gave about a 4" lip inside and secured with a staplegun. Not a very elegant solution but extemely effective. I once spilled over a gallon of water inside the stand and it saved my a**. Simply get the shopvac suck out the water, spill solved.
