How do I sterilize a foam filter?

It`s the one I have for my quarantine tank. I used it to try and treat one of my sons` clown fish that had a fungus of some kind. The only thing I used was Melafix. I just don`t want to take the chance of introducing the fungus into my display when I put it back in the sump.

Thanks in advance

bleach it would be my answer . just be sure and rinse well and let dry thoroughly after then use it as everything will be dead by that point .

Diluted chlorine bleach. Be sure to get the old-fashioned type of bleach with no additives, perfumes, etc. Follow all the steps above and your foam filter should be free of any problems.

I haven't done this with foam filters but I do this method with filter socks. I wash them in the washing machine but use the gentle cycle and do a light load. I use a little liquid detergent n bleach.

10% bleach soak would do the job nicely.

Squeeze out the air.- but beware that bleach may infact damage the foam of the filter.

Warming the water some will also help.
