Howbout 2.5 of 3

My best guess would the GEM module. Essentially it is a Body function control module. It controls the keyless entry, alarms etc. It's not cheap but it isn't all that bad compared to a lot of other repairs. Just a guess though, have it checked first.
How bad is "not bad".

The car is with the machanic right now. He said he will call me later and let me know what the test show.
Do you think that maybe the CD player that was put in a few weeks ago could be causing something to go crazy. Or could it be the little kids downstairs playing with my keypad. Everytime I turn around I am catching them playing with it. They just the buttons like crazy. Could they have confussed the car.

Is your key fob made by Lincoln(assuming that's the make of your car) or another brand?
It is the original key for the car. The Lincoln symbol on it.

 not the key, the key fob. The thing with the buttons on it that you press to unlock the car.
Oh, I guess my brain is scrambled too.
It was the one that I got when I got the car. But I don't know if it is factory issue. They all look the same. It doesn't have a logo on it or anything.

Well I better go lay down now, I am sure they machanic will be waking me up before long. And I have to work tonight. I will let you all know when I learn something.

If it doesn't have a Lincoln logo it's probably after market. Possibly small black with 2 buttons on it only.

If it's aftermarket I'd take it to a stereo/alarm shop instead of a mechanic.

No really doubt if it would be either of these. I'm sure what ever it is will also fix the Key fob.

Jeff are you talking about the number bad that is on the side of the door? | 1/2 | 3/4 | 5/6 | 7/8 | 9/0 | something like that! or the one you carry on your key chain that locks and unlocks the doors?

Rena you have the number pad on the door right..

I have never seen an after market for the number bad.

I have the key pad on the side of the door and the key FOB. They Key FOB hasn't acted up at all, knock wood. It is the key pad the backlight would come on as if some one was pushing it, and start clicking like it was opening the door. But no one was touching it, and the door wasn't opened.
Well I called the shop. They said they hooked it up the the computer and nothing showed up. They said they ran all the programs and absolutely nothing showed up. The car is perfect. She said if freaked everyone out about 3, the car came to life again for a bout a minute. The head lights came on and the hazard lights came on, after about a minute they went off. They hooked back up the the computer, and nothing showed up again. Do they are scratching their heads to. They said they called Ford and they don't know what it could be.. Ford said run the diagnotic on the electrical and on the computer itself. But they had already done that twice. So now I am in the same spot I was this morning - $100. for them checking it out. I asked them about the key FOB. they said that was fine.

Good possibility is the BCM or body control module. Have seen them fail and do similar things. Definately look for tsb or technical service bulletins for related problems.

I'm tellin you if your key fob doesn't have lincoln on it its aftermarket. the key fob is the keychain not the door pad.

if its aftermarket alarm the mechanic won't know what to do since its not part of the computer.

you'll need to take it to a stereo/alarm shop. like custom sounds or something. they'll know the details about it. something may have caused a short wheb the receiver wad installed

i had a problem with a a car about like your about 6 months ago. the people said the battery was going down. i got it to the shop and worked on it for a week. one day it would start next day i would come in in the morning the battery was stone dead. i had to go to the shop one night at about midnight for some tools and the headlights were on. i looked at it and then they went off then on again. it was in the key pad the numbers had a short in it and it thought a button was being pushed. i had to replace the keypad.

you said you had trouble with the keypad the other day i bet that is what it is. i would take the door panel off unplug the keypad and see if it quits. there is no computer that is going to find the problem if it is not acting up at the time you look at it.

i wish i had one of those "computers that tells me what is wrong with a car". Electrical is tough sometimes.

Guess what, The downstairs neighbor came up to tell me I left my lights on. I went down and nope. Then as I was walking back up the stair. they pop on.
I am ok with diconnecting the key pad on the door. If it will stop this.
How hard is something like this? I wouldn't even attempt it myself, but I can't afford to pay $300 for something like this. Is there maybe a fuse that controls the keypad. Maybe I could just look that up and pull that fuse.

i am just guessing without looking at a wiring dyagram that the same fuse used for the remote keypad is the one for the power door locks. i can look it up for sure at work tomm. the door panels are sometimes a pain to get off. i will look and see if there is a diffrent place to unplug it but i doubt it.

This is going to sound too simple. And you may have done it already, but before you spend any more $$$ have somebody check the voltage on your battery.

If you're losing a cell the voltage will waver, and the computer can do all kinds of strange things.

I was thinking the same thing on the battery part earlier.. But My battery (I thought) died the next day.. My car was doing weird things like that too.. come to find out it wasn't even the battery but the corrosion on the post. ended up costing me nothing.
