Ph is 8.76 now, from 8.81.

Holy cow, man... what happened? You weren't kidding in your PM... I thought you may have been!

Oh man. Was this a problem with kalk dosing? Auto topoff? Did anything make it?

I know you probably don't want to think about this now, but when you rebuild I've got plenty of SPS that I could frag for you.

As far as I can tell, the top off cut on as I was adding the slurry. I guess I didnt hear it, which baffles me, because it can be pretty loud.

My stomach is rolling right now.

Ph is down to 8.3. Ive got carbon running and jammed a ton of filter floss in between the baffles. Nothing seems to be dead yet. Im about to check the ca and alk.

Im dreading the alk reading.

I think someone in the SPS forum had a kalk OD recently and it seems like several others had the same thing happen with minimal loss. You may be okay, Chuck.

Thanks goby -

Ive got a 25g trashcan that I usually keep saltwater in, and a 35/40 gallon trashcan that I keep freshwater in that I mixed up salt today. Should be ready for a big change tomorrow.

Sure hope things go well. Also, I wanted to post so I'd be notified of the progress. I'm always afraid that just one thing could go wrong and...

Here's the good news.

I've lost nothing. Everything seems to be doing just fine. I can't see any recession in any of the sps yet, and the fish seem to be ok.

Im really surprised. I saw the cloud, the ph spike, knew that the alk was about to freak out... but... I guess they are more hardy then I give them credit for.

I have had a 46 gallon running for two years with filter pad and bio balls.with 5 fish and at least 20 coral Seriously! . I have only seen that when I add
some chemical in the tank. Sometimes 2 things dont combine. Thanks HJ

If it was the auto-top-off turning on while adding the slurry, could someone please explain to me in very basic terms what the "slurry" was and what happened? Was this a mixture to maintain alkalinity that got overdosed?
