just a curiousity question. whats the biggest clam youve seen in a home tank. ive seen some 14 inch squamosa but i think they get bigger. and dont be shy with pics if you have any. thanks

yes they do exist. the crocea is the smallest in the family, hitting about 6 inches max. most of the other hit about 16 inches up to 18 inches. The largest is the gigas reaching about 4 feet to 5 feet.

The biggest I have seen is a 10 inch derasa... in my tank. Unfortunately for me the area of gainesville does not have many people who are interested in clams.

These aren't in a home tank, but still in captivity at the Waikiki aquarium. Notice the two in the center with the tangs for size reference. There is also one sort of hidden on the right side of the picture that is actually a bit bigger.

dusty go up to tropicorium in romulus michigan and check out the 18" squamosa they have for sale. guy traded it in for credit because it out grew his 75 gallon!

This is me and my brothers (kozmo02) gigas in our 180. It's really big. It barely fit the diameter of an Instant Ocean bucket when we moved it to our new tank. We had right around an inch to spare. He bought it from Clams Direct when it was no more then 2 inches.

I have seen multple 12 and 14" clams in home aquariums!!! In san luis obispo I they have a 12" derasa in a board shop! the owner told me he has kept it for 7 years...

Here's my gigas, I've had it couple of years in my 80 gallon. Its about 14" now. Its getting to big, so I'm going to upgrade to a 180 at the end of the year.

Not sure if you guys have seen coral reef adventure, but it shows them come upon a giant clam that is at least as big as the diver....I was shocked and had no idea they got that big.
