HUGE room sized aquarium

About a year or so ago I remember seeing in this forum a link to what I seem to remember being like a 50,000 gallon tank. I was roughly the size of a normal sized bedroom. Does anyone have any clue what I am talking about? I've tried googleing and found nothing. I'm trying to find it to show my brother. Thanks for the help.

Was that the tank that was actully his basement? I think that was on monster fish keepers. All huge freshwater stuff if I remember correctly.

A new thread was started on another site regarding the tank. There was mucho drama... I didn't follow the story in detail. Anyways the thread got closed as a result, you can still find it now... don't have to look hard, however, most all of the picture links are now broken.

Was a very impressive tank 17000g (8ft tall) with 2x 3000g sumps and a bunch of other doodads.

FYI none of the tank pictures in the link soccerbum474 posted are the one mentioned in this thread. Those are other tanks. However, the cars and some of the house construction pics are Bill Wann's.



I'd say only about 1 in 20 of the pictures still work from that thread. I'm not going through all 65 pages to find them but here is one just to give people an ideal of the scale of the tank.

Yeah, if I remember right it was something like that and though I didn't follow it very well it probably was a freshwater tank. I do remember him talking about how he had it plumbed into the city plumbing or something like that. Just a very impressive tank.

It was definitely going to be a reef tank, not freshwater. We just never saw the final product.

Yeah, there's a 50,000g freshwater tank over on MFK.

It was saltwater, one of the fish to go in it was an orange shoulder tang larger than a dinner platter.

Yeah if i Remeber correctly there was a highschool sytle argument that closed the thread, sort of a love triangle thing. But I beleive his relationship at the time fell apart and he never did finish the tank.

Kinda sucks cause i read through the whole thread to find out that the thing would probably never be finished.

monster fish keepers has some HUGE tanks but most of them are freshwater for arrowanna and things like that.

I remember his tank he had before he started the room sized one. It has been a while.

Yeah he and his wife split up, and was giong to sell the house, but then ended up keeping it.

There was all sorts of off hand comments about what he did for a living, and it turned out that he refurbished flame chromatographs or something. the stuff that they use on CSI to tell if a chemical is on something like a hair...

Anyhow he didn't like what people were saying about him, and he closed the thread himself. I though at one point someone was updating it for him in his stead, but I lost interest and could be wrong... But it was (going to be) a saltwater tank, not sure if it was full reef or not, but last I knew it didn't come to fruition as the costs were adding up, and other parts of the house needed to get done and take priority.

OK. So thank you for all the input. Though the large SW tank was pretty awesome I did look on monster fish keepers and it had the 50,000g one I was talking about and it did end up being freshwater. It was a little unfinished looking but cool none the less. I mean come on 50,000G? WOW!
