Humidity problems

Hey guys I want to start off by saying that our tanks do put humidity in the air but we have received quit a few calls this"winter" with condensation in homes. I would encourage everybody to do a couple of basic ideas to keep your families healthy. First check all gutters and down spouts for proper drainage. Along with the gutters see if you splash blocks are in place and that water is in fact running away from your house. Next, open up your crawl space vents. I know that we have all been told to close those suckers up in the winter, but with this Fl. winter that we are going through we are holding a lot of moisture in homes and that needs to get out. In all of our new homes we place the humidistat opening type vents that do this automatically, an easy DIY project if you don't have them. Finally, make sure that you have good air flow inside your house. Get those ceiling fans going, in reverse, get the Christmas tree off of the vents in the living room open up all doors in the house. I know that grand ma used to close off rooms to conserve energy. This really stops the flow of air to the point of sometimes decreasing the energy efficiency of your units. On the tank side of things I have placed tops on all my sumps. I still like open tops on my tanks but could probably slow some evaporation by topping them as well.

Thanks for the great information Rob, I'm pretty sure not many of us give much thought to our crawl space vents. It's pretty cool that you are using Automatic type vents, wasn't aware they even made them.

Yeah they have been on the market for a while and really in this area are a great product. We really struggle with when to and not to open them. The vents take all the guess work out of it.
