hurricane prep?

there was a message posted a while ago on this,and i can't find it or search for it. Anyhow gonna probably get evacuated from where I am in the next couple of days and am looking for anything I can do to try and help preserve my tank.

well evacuation theres not a ton you can do unfortunally prob the best thing is to go get a battery powered air pump with a airstone and let it run but even that is only going to last for a period of time
But if you home and lose power i would still go get the pump and if you can do a bunch of water changes change the water about every 2 hours or so/or get a generator
the next best thing is pray just remember as much as we all love our tanks they can be replaced our lives can so worry about yourself before you tank you have to do what you have to do best of luck to you and your tank

where are you at? if you have to leave for an extended period, there's little you can do other than battery air pumps. I have some that kick on when the power shuts off. I live right near Galveston, so I'm at risk as well. I do have a portable generator and a chiller for the potential of loss of power, but the tank itself is on its own if I'm evacuated.

The Bahamas. Ike looks like it things could get really bad, and am preparing for worst case scenario, but don't want to lose anything, which I realize is probably fantasy. It will probably be for an extended period of time, week I would gather at the most unless it destroys everything, then its all mute. 4 days away may be more of the reality.

Just hope it changes course and looking for ideas.

Sorry to hear of your delima. Generally I would say you were lucky to live in the Bahamas, but not when it is storm season. Good luck and stay safe and hope Ike changes direction.

Beyond the suggestions you've been given, I'd crank the temp up on the tank for the next 2 days by about 2 degrees. After that you can return it to normal. This will raise the stress threshold of the animals so hopefully they'll fair better with no a/c or aeration.

Also, if you have time to after you've taken care of yourself, mix up enough saltwater to do a large water change when you get back.

Understood, I was sweating out Gustav last week, getting stuff put together and ready to bolt. Hope this one changes course for you.

Thanks guys. I have the added variable of living on an island and it is a forced EVAC. Looks like it may go south, but we will probably still get evac-ed for safety. CAT 4's destroy islands
