Does anyone have any knowledge of the applicantion of the Hydor Flo Rotating Water Deflector unit in nano tanks? How well do the units work in general? How are people plumming them into their tanks? Feel free to share!!!

I use one in my 20 attached to a MaxiJet 900. I like it, it seems to work pretty well and it does seem to mimick wave action pretty well. There are definitely better wave producers available but for the price I don't think you can go wrong. Take a look at the full tank shot in the following post (linked below), you can see it in the upper right hand corner.

I ordered one and have it on a MJ 400. Its a little underpowered, and the unit defiantly weakens it, but I would say, depending on your tank(if yours is a 24) then I would go with a 900. Their really good for alternating flow, but Are kinda big, but their also black so its ok.

I wana say that i've seen some people even plumming their hydor unit into the back of their nano cubes? Has anyone else seen this?

I did attach mine to the back of my Nano Cube......Id provide pics but Im new to posting pics/......i dont know how to do it. It works GREAT and my corals love the flow. You coudl add a 2nd one if you want for different current patterns. Great buy for about $10 on Dr Foster/Smith.

Yea, i saw that these units sell for rather cheap online. The only problem i see, personally, is haveing a powerhead in the display tank, but with yet another extention on it...making it even more noticable IMO.

I did have some probs w/ mine popping out of the socket on my Nano. I just used some tephelon tape though and it held it in there real snug! Works GREAT!

Has anyone adapted the Hydor unit and plummed it through the back wall of the nano cube...allowing for the original water outlet for loc-line connectors?

i have it on my rio 200 in my 12gallon and they dont stop working if you clean the algee out of them like they say to in the instructions

Mine works great.

However if you have no intention of cleaning and maintaining it you won't be happy with it.

I have one on my JBL 12G and I like it. My LS like it too. And you should clean it on occasion. I don't know how often, because I have only had mine for about 5 weeks. I bought it used. I took it off and cleaned it. I could see immediate improvement in the flow.

It has a little propeller gizmo on it that spins as the water flows through it. The spinning prop turns a gear that turns the flow director. It really very clever. They are inexpensive enough to buy two. One for back up.

My snails really like it. They manage to get on it and ride it round and round! However, the larger snails make it stop too. When they are on the top and hit the lid, it stops spinning. So I have to watch it. *s*
