hydor koralia question

I just got two #4's for my birthday. I like them very much. They came with some type of guard with it but, no instructions how it is installed. Doed anyone have a pic with the guard installed? Also, do I need to use the guard and how do you run yours?

the guard goes on the tip so that nothing can swim or crawl into the propellor. I don't think you have to use it but I do use mine because I don't think it affects flow.

I got that thing too I thought it was a guard but someone told said it helps make the flow not as wide. But I am not sure. the older koralias dont have that cap though.

The cover is use if you want more directed flow versus random flow pattern.

It is beneficial if you put the powerhead on the long side of the tank and you need to flow to travel a bit farther but more concentrated.

Hydor only include them to the koralia recently. You may have the older stock.

Same here, hehe. I got 2 x #3 and 2x#4 and neither had this guard.

Ahhh, so they direct flow! I'm going to install them then.
I didn't originally because I thought they were just to keep
snails out.

BTW, I bought my two 4's recently from Drs. Foster and Smith
and both came with the flow directors.

Funny.. I was eating lunch on Saturday and heard a lot of clunking in my tank. I walked over and say a snail in my hydor4 bouncing around like it was in a blender. My H4's turn on at noon with the actinics. Thankfully I was able to stop it before the propeller or snail was damaged.

I just brought a new k4 and it came with the flow adapter. It makes a HUGE difference. They should sell these for the older kits.

this is what the pamplet says that came with mine.

"if necessary, apply to the upper chamber the flow concentrator nozzle with fish-grid (for extra safety) as indicated in fig. 3."

so basically it does both, protects fish and directs flow a little straighter.

i bought a #3 a few weeks back, and it didnt come with the flow director (whatever they want to call it). i bought a #4 this weekend from the same place and it had it. i felt ripped of on the first one LOL

I am not sad that mine did not have it, but I wish that I had a new one. The older ones are SHOCKING people.

mine came with them but im getting better flow with out the cap on mainly because i only got one 3 and the flow is more realistic.

But ive been a bit worried that my clown gets chopped up.

and it looks better with the cap on imo
