Hydrometer or portable refractometer

I have seen the instant ocean hydrometers and Dr. Foster and Smith has a portable refractometer for around $45. Is the hydrometer good enough to start with or should a person just start with the refractometer?

I have seen the same refractometer at Kermits now. I think he just started carrying them. I have used a hydrometer for awhile with success but I like the accuracy of the refractometer after being in the hobby for this long. For the most part the hydrometer will do the job.

they are both worth the price you pay for them ... refractometer makes life so much easier ... dont have to worry about any of those little quirks of a hydrometer .... However they cost 4 times as much

I vote refractometer. If you're just getting into the hobby and don't know if you'll stay in it, go hydrometer.
