Hyopsalinity combined with Cuprimine treatment?

Is it safe to treat with Cuprimine at lower salinity? I just heard for the first time that hypo makes Cu treatment toxic. True?

I doubt that lowering the salinity with Cupramine has any impact on its toxicity ... but to be frank I don't see any benefit in using both at the same time and there maybe some increased stress as a result of using both. If it were my tank I would pick one or the other.

i heard you cannot use hypo with cupramine? i might be wrong.

It depends on why you are doing it. I treated my fish with hypo for ich. A week later my fish had Velvet which hypo does nothing for Velvet so I had to use copper. According to Seachem you can use Cupramine in hypo but at a weaker stregth : 0.20ppm. I also had to raise my salinity from 1.009 to 1.015 over few hours so I can increase my copper strength as well. A week later fish survived both ich and velvet.

Hypo can bring immediate relief for fish infected with ich. Copper does not

It's not the lowered salinity itself that is the problem, but the lowered alkalinity that makes the Cu more toxic. So if you boost the alkalinity back up to NSW values you'll be fine.
