Hyperactive CB Angel

I have a coral beauty angel that I have had since this past October (8 months). He is historically the cool-cat of the tank just casually swimming around, grazing on rock, not taking any crap from my punk clown, etc. The past few days he has been off the wall bonkers darting back and forth, up and down at warp speed. The strange thing is he looks 100% healthy. Full color, not breathing particularly hard (considering his hyperactivity) and eats with as much vigor as ever. Every now and then he will stop to graze, then it's off the to races again. Has anyone else seen this type of behavior before?

Note: Water quality is fine and all parameters are within check and have been stable for months. All other livestock are healthy and acting normal.

have you added anything to the tank of late? any new fish that could be causing more aggression from the angel?

yeah I added a green chromis somewhat recently. however, the angel completely ignores it. just seems to be interested in swimming circles around the tank like he's in a race.

I have a Flame Angel in a 30 reef. He shares it with a maroon clown and 2 chromis. Every once in a while he will fly around the tank like his tail is on fire. I think he is reasserting his dominance and truly, the tank is too small for him to be comfortable. Nitrates can bring out this behavior as well and so can internal parasites that you might not be able to see inside the gills.

nitrates would hardly be the problem maybe if they shot up like 50ppm in a short time space but nitrates dont really have that much of an adverse affect on fish like it does coral

I think this may be the answer, as simplistic as it may be. I got a chance to sit and watch him for a while and noticed he was meticulous in his swimming path, going the same way in the same places always, but never in my clown's "spot." So maybe he is showing off his territory to the new chromis.

No, you are wrong. Nitrates can have an adverse affect on a Centropyge Angel manifesting in "Odd" behavior. I have noticed a lot of things are stated on RC as fact--forums are a dangerous place.
