Hypo and vinegar dosing?

I am running my DT hypo salinity because of an outbreak of Ick that has taken the life of all my fish except my Yellow tang. Lost 8 fish.

Brief history, I started my 180 in January - previously had a 90. One of the fish I added must have had Ick - no I didn't because after 8 years of no QT with the 90 stupid me thought I was bullet proof.

I have moved all corals and inverts to a separate tank, because they were easier to catch.

I have been at 12 PPTsalinity (or is it M) for a week (1.009 SG).

Any way, I am getting algae growth and the PO4 is .04 and NH3 is .5. I was dosing vinegar but stopped when I started to take it to Hypo. I understand that Hypo may cause the bacteria to die off causing Ammonia spike. I have an Ammonia alert in the tank and it is showing <.02 so in the safe level.

What do you think of resuming vinegar dosing? I am running GFO and Carbon in 2 reactors.

Thanks for your input.

Let me get this straight. You only have one fish that needed to be caught so instead of removing some rock to catch one fish, you removed the coral and destroyed all your live rock and established system?! Would be much easier and less work long term to just have caught the fish. I'd say the algae is the least of problems, and in this situation letting the algae feed off the nutrients is better than creating a bacterial bloom at this point.

I wouldn't add anything at this point. You need to stabilize first. Just like when you were first cycling, you need to do that all over again. Wait until your ammonia hits 0. At that point you can maybe think about a dosing regimen.

You need your biofilter to get re-established first... if you're reading ammonia, you're not there yet.
