Hypo QT

Im ready to buy my new fish after letting the tank sit fishless (still have snails hermits shrimp and a star) for a few weeks. I am planning on qting all fish that i buy in a hypo tank reguardless of if they are infected or not just to make sure they arent. If i set the qt tank to 1.009 can i drip aclimate the new fish for an hour then put it in the qt for 6 weeks then drip acclimate him back into the display? Also what do i do about corals, shrimp, crabs etc..? can i use the same process? Any advice is appreciated!

unfortunately, all inverts and corals will die in hypo conditions...you will have to qt them seperately if you leave your qt tank at 1.009

maybe you could buy all of your corals and inverts first and qt them, before you reduce the salinity to hypo conditions..later, once the fish are out, you could lower the salinity and buy a few fish

that may work in theory but the problem is i don't really know everything i want to put in the tank. i typically just buy when i see something i like. I do have a spare 10 gallon i could use as a qt for the inverts but what do i do while they are in the quarentine tank to rid them of parasites? what is the difference if i put them in the 10 gallon with normal marine salinity rather than just putting them strait into the main tank?

If you quarantine the inverts, corals, rock, algae, non fish tank inhabitants in a separte QT without fish for at least 6 weeks, any parasites will die without a fish host. Normal salinity is recommended.

Once something is in QT - DO NOT add anything else to the QT until the 6 week period is over - otherwise you have exposed the tank & its inhabitants and the quarantine period starts over.
