Hypo Salanity

I have some fish in hypo. if I were to bring in some more fish could I acclimate them straight to hypo? one other ? does hypo kill flukes or will I have to do a different treatment for flukes.:uzi:

Being it takes 48 hours to lower a fish into hypo conditions, you'd have to do it in a bucket or small tank with an air stone, heater, probably have to use an ammonia reducer, etc. Hypo only treats ich - and even that is dubious IMHO.

+1 how are you checking the salinity? With a digital refractometer, refractometer? If the salinity ever rises above the 1.009 you start over at day 1 and the ph swings are a whole different conversation. How many fish are we talking about? I would either treat the fish with Tank Transfer method or chloroquine phosphate or there is cupramine... There is another thread that's on here and the hypo salinity went just above the 1.009 and they had start the clock over again and again the ph fluctuating is another piece to the hypo puzzle. It's the most difficult method to do correctly IMO. Flukes need to be treated with prazipro and I would suggest 2 treatments with the PP

yea I have a digital refractometer and keeping it at 1.008 going to run for 8 weeks. I wanted to add 3 more fish without raising the salinity back up. im only in to it about 4 days. I no I will have to start over.

There have been studies done in regards to hypo and flukes. They concluded that fish held in 15 ppt for 5 days prevented 99% of eggs from hatching and eliminated all adults and juveniles. IME while it did give the fish some relief the flukes came back. Prazi is a safe and tolerable treatment for most fish. People have reported issues with wrasses in the event of an overdose.
