I've seen people go as low as 1.009 in some posts. Do an RO fresh watter dip. Make sure PH, KH, and temp are as close as possable to tank specs. People say they watch them fall off.
I concur with Dave. One other note: you can drop salinity fairly quickly with fish in the display but salinity needs to be raised very slowly back to normal salinity. What fish are you treating?
we are treating spn's fish we also have a separat tank that we are treating a passer angel and a butterfly for odinuim in. see if it makes them better but the lower salinity has already percked up most of the fish to atleast start to eat.
Cool. From what I understand, the fish will experience less stress in a hyposaline environment since they don't have to work as hard to extract oxygen from the water column. This allows them to divert more enrgy to immunological process. Best of luck!
yea it seems to be helping. the crosshatch, specaled tang, rabbitfish, niger trigger, squarel and yellow tangs are eating so that is a good sign. two have died tho, a puffer and a ebli angle.
Glad to hear things are going well. Keep in mind for all the floating cysts to die it will take anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks. Low salinity will not kill all of them. If you have a datum filter use that, it will take out most of the floaters in the water column. When you start brining the salinity back up you need to bring it back slow like in 2 to 4 hours just like you were acclimating the fish again. Good luck
More causualties.
Passer Angel, Damsel, One Butterfly is barely breathing, the other is not looking so well. I am unable to locate a few others at the moment.
Wow sorry to hear this. If you can catch them still do a fresh water dip and add some antibiotic for any infection or bacteria that may have started. You will have to do several of these in the course of the week. And I would not rely on UV alone to kill all the cysts. Some cysts will attach to rock or lay in the sand bed. Blow off the rocks and stir the sand bed to get them into the water column so UV and datium filter can do there job. Good luck
