hyposalinity in DT

Thanks for everyone's input, sorry I have been a little busy the last couple months.

I thought I would do one last update to wrap up, the treatment went very well and the tank suffered no losses,
If you do attempt to try this treatment, I recommend you keep a bottle of prime or alpha handy for the duration of the treatment and when you test copper you should also test for ammonia (every day) as the biological filtration gets a little bit shaken.
Once again a big thanks to everyone's input and I hope people can learn from this"ยฆ
QT EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!

stupid mistake,

i should have said when testing for your salt level test ammonia at the same time.

never used copper :rolleye1:

i used to work for a lfs we ran hyposalinity down to 1.010 it was very efective at killing the parasite,i personally ran a salinity of 1.015 in my coral filled reef aquarium,i had no adverse effects on the corals or inverts.i lowered the salinity over a period of 4 days.im not suggesting u do the same but there was no impact on the biological filter, you always want to keep the uv running.i had a 125 gl with about 15 fish in it.ruby reef has a product that works for killing cryptocarryon and it is supposed to be reef safe.if u have a concern about an nh3 spike use a bio boosting product such as fritz zyme 9 it works wonders.nitrifying bacteria can survive lower salinities all the way down to lower brackish levels.i would take everyones advice and bottle it. to find the best recipe.i still believe when u use a highly nutricious diet with spirulina and garlic with b vitamins and some zeocon it helps boost the immune system and the fish is able to naturally fight off allot of common issues that a poor diet with lower water quality would normaly have on most fish.secondary infections are also healed well using melafix,it is a completely reef safe alternative.i have used it and never had any adverse effects on any invert or coral.best of luck with your endeavor.

Im in the process of doing hypo in my 180 DT. Did I really need to go through all the trouble of taking out all my LR or could I of just left it in?
