Hyposalinity in Main System for Ich?

The parasites on the fish have some protection from the hypo because there imbedded in the the fishes tissue but they will run there normal life cycle and should fall of the fish within 7 days then the hypo will kill them. Once you have reached the hypo level maintain it for 30 days then transfer the fish to a sterile qt and observe for a few weeks. The clock I think your referring to is the time the DT remains fallow and it's not 6 weeks it's 76 days

There is no possible way to catch the fish in my dt without me tearing up the LR and actually getting into the tank which I don’t see happeneing; the Anthias alone are insanely quick and hide extremely well in the LR when spooked or chased. I am going to run hypo in the main DT for the entire process. I don’t have any inverts or corals right now anyways in there so there is no chance of inverts/corals dying.

I have read that 1.009 to 1.010 is low enough for hypo to work can someone confirm this? I am stable at 1.010 right now but could lower it .001 if needed to get to 1.009.

Also, should the temperature be increased to speed up the Ich cycle? I am at 79-80 decgrees consistently right now, should increase to 81-82?

Thanks for all the help guys.

Ok hypo in the DT. Generally the temp increase is around 85f degrees with this in mind I would not raise the temp with the fish in there. 1.009 is the correct SG you are shooting for. I would try to hit that SG and maintain it, if you do not have an Ato on the tank just top it off several times a day maybe every 8 hrs

Also while running hypo in the DT you could try 45 days instead of 76 there is obviously a risk to running less time but with the DT being at 1.009 SG I personally don't think I would go the full 76 days

I appreciate the reply. I'll bring the salinity down to 1.009 today. I have a large system and with the current water loss at approx 7-10 gallons a day I can top off in the morning and then again at night.

Really need an auto top off when doing hypo. It will save you so much worrying about staying at the right level. Definitely well worth the small investment

Ok guys so I have the auto top off and the salinity holding at 1.008 SG.

I have 1 of my anthias that has a few (small) ich parasites on him. What is the estimated just that they will fall off? I am just curious as to when the clock starts for the 45-days time duration after ich is not present on the fish.

Thanks!

If your at 1.008 SG the clocks starts now. However if you wanna wait till all the ick is off the fish, ick is on the fish 5-7 days then drops off.there still may be a white spot on the fish after 7 days but that's the wound your seeing

Is there anything that resembles Ich (white spots) but isn't Ich?

The one Anthias that originally came into the tank with 'Ich' still has the same white spots on his body and its been almost 2 weeks now. Temp is at 79 degrees shoulld I turn it up to 82 to speed it along?

Yes velvet but the spots are real small like dust and usually a lot more of them. It's possible you are still seeing ick can you post a pic of it. Keep in mind the hypo you were originally at would allow new ick to infect your fish now that your at 1.008 (as you mentioned ) you should see an improvement within 7 days from the time you hit 1.008

I can try and get a better picture tomorrow, but here is one for now:

That looks like lymphocysts! It's viral it's generally not dangerous. It's is the herpes lol of fish. Post a pic tomorrow try to get a close up and under white light. Lymphocyst look like cauliflower in texture they generally stay on the fish for 10 or more days before falling off and the fish will always have it. It will be brought on generally by stress and it is contagious however that doesn't mean all your fish will contract it.

Well I’m not sure if that’s good news or bad... will it survive hypo? Cause I currently have my tank at 1.008 and there is no chance of me catching these fish unless I tear the tank down and it’s far too big.

Ya like I mentioned it's generally not fatal the only time it usually kills is when it grows on the mouth full or an internal organ. For right know maintain your hypo get pictures of all the fish and post them. It seems odd that all the fish would have lymphocysts at the same time. Did all the fish have spots like this ?

Knock on wood, this is the only fish that has it. None of the other fish as of tonight have any spots in them and they have all been in the same tank for about 3 weeks now.

This is lymphocyst

Good deal if the others had spots I would continue hypo it's possible you have ick and lymphocysts at the same time since they are generally brought on by stress

No spots at all on any of the other fish. I will try and get a couple better pictures today and post them.
