Hyposalinity question...

I'm about to start Hypo on my clowns, but I had a question about taking the salinity down. I read on this article and I quote, "The fish can be removed from the tank and be placed in the hypo-pH and temp matched tank without acclimation. It’s when you again raise up the salinity that it must be done so slowly with an increase of no more than 0.002 points per day."

Can the fish really just be placed into the hospital tank with such a low salinity without any kind of acclimation? I just thought that was weird since all I've known since starting is how important acclimation is. Is it okay to do or not?

Personally, I would do it over a period of 48 hours and several changes. That being said, lots of people do freshwater dips and don't provide any acclimation to the dip water or back to the tank water. Its common practice, so its probably not that bad. I think you can do it either way, but slow acclimation is likely easier on the fish. It is my understanding that fish tolerate sudden decreases in salinity much better than sudden increases.

I always take the fish down in 48hrs and back up in 72hrs or 96hrs depending on the fish. I haven't lost one yet to ick.
