About 10 days ago, I noticed the beginnings of an ich outbreak in my display. I immediately captured all of the fish and began a treatment of hyposalinity in a quarantine tank. Only two fish showed any signs of ich (blue jaw trigger and PBT).
After 9 days of treatment, I've lost 3 anthias and two blennies .. all of which succumbed with the same symptoms. First, they become lethargic and stop eating and then red sores appear on their bodies, and then they die. None of these fish had shown any outward signs of ich when placed in hypo. It looks as if they've suffered some sort of internal hemorrhaging (uneducated guess). It seems they are dying from the smallest to the largest.
The two fish which were originally showing the signs of ich are completely clear of any visible spots and are totally healthy, so I don't think ich has become epidemic in the hypo treatment tank.
I have been careful to maintain the SG at 1.009. And, I do test it daily with a refractometer.
The fish that remain in hypo are: two occelaris clowns, scribbled rabbit fish, powder blue tang, Kole tang, blue jaw trigger, and copperband butterfly. Last evening, I noticed some areas of what appears to be raised scales on the copperband butterfly. It is still acting and feeding normally, but it is cause for concern.
Has anyone else experienced similar problems with hypo? Should I raise the SG and treat with copper instead?
Your input and suggestions are always appreciated.
