Hyposalinity

I was wondering if hypo treatment will kill aptasia, hermits and snails.
I will remove as many snails and hermit if it kills them but willing to leave the aptasia
Thank you

Hypo is suppose to harm all inverts but I know that some crabs seem to tolerate hypo so maybe aptasia will tolerate as well - no personal experience in killing aptasia with hypo.

Hyposalinity is a variable term. I believe that the original paper by Cheung used a specific gravity of 1.016, but here on RC 1.009 seems to be a common target, with 1.008 being used by some people (IMO - way too low). I've heard people report snail loss at these lower values.

I don't have a lot of first hand experience exposing inverts to hypo, since the first symptom that you've reached their tolerance level is pretty much - death, so I tend to avoid that. I do know that Aiptasia do just fine at 1.015, and probably can go much lower.

I'm also wondering what hyposalinity will do to snails. Aren't some of the marine snails fine when they're not even in water (like on the side of the tank above water level)? If so, why would hyposalinity be a problem?

I had a real bad outbreak of ick all I have left is 1 goby and 3 chromis. I just want to make sure no ick is left after 6 weeks. I was hoping i could get rid of the aptasia too while I'm doing it. I was aiming for 1.009
Thanks for the replies
