I am always surprised at what all I find in my aquarium!

Got tubes?
I was looking around tonight during feeding time, just watching everyone eat (particularly the bristle worms and mini brittle stars) and I noticed two small black snails. I thought "Cool! The ceriths are reproducing, just like Steve mentioned." And then I looked a little closer. HOLY COW those little guys are everywhere! :D I was (sadly?) excited!

Here's a cropped pic:

Most of those tiny little dots are TINY little snails! I was so pumped! I've noticed they spend a lot of time in the sand and some time on the glass. Pretty neat!

Brian, you want some a little later? ;)

Big thanks to Steve! Its been a WHILE since I put these in there, but most of them that I put in were small anyway, so only a few have finally matured and started reproducing. :)

They look like ceriths to me... I've had success with getting them to reproduce in my tank, but then I added a few wrasses... I plan to collect a bunch when Ashley and I go to Florida...

I'm pretty sure they are, Tomoko, as they're doing pretty well in my tank and did well in Steve's tank, too. :)

Don't get caught, Randy! ;)

I don't think its illegal to collect snails??? I know you can't take live rock, stony corals, and certain fish though...

As long as you have a FL state fishing license wether it be a 1 day or whatever, you can LEGALLY collect anything except acropora florida, liverock and goliath groupers as long as its not in a protected area. Im not sure if there are others on there

Brandon- I'm down. I'd love anything that would keep me from having to constantly replace dying snails.

Makes sense that most places wouldn't sell snails that will reproduce in captivity...

Brian:

I think they may be Florida Ceriths from Reeftopia. I know they came from Reeftopia, and I think they're specifically the Florida Ceriths. To be honest, I'm not sure how well they clean and what not as I've not observed them directly (plus I have so many astrea, they don't have to do a whole lot :) ), but I'm sure they'll do SOMEthing. :)

I'll grab two or three of the larger small ones  and bring them to the next meeting. :)

Brandon

I would like to get some of them. Would one of you sell some to me the next time I am in town or possibly during Chattanooga frag swap this summer?

Tomoko

I don't have many of those small ceriths anymore. I gave a bunch a way awhile back. There's still some in there though. I now have hundreds of these small pyramid looking snails everywhere.

Sure Tomoko!

I'm not 100% sure if I'll be at the Chattanooga swap, but I'm 95% sure I'll be at the ETRC swap. :) I'll try to let you know when the time gets closer.

Also, I think Steve is talking about the keyhole limpets. I got a couple of those from him out of that tank, too. :)
