I am at a loss with SPS corals. Please help.

No copper in system. All inverts like shrimp and starfish would be affected as well. All LPS is fine and flourishing.

At this point, does anyone reccomend removing the damaged corals and leaving the OK ones. Kind of at a loss to move forward.

Only other thought I can come up with is a bacterial issue.

Myself and several fellow reefers have had success with Furan 2 dips with SPS corals.

I hate to report this, but I have discovered AEFW. Should I ditch all corals and go SPS free? I have only frags at the moment that can all be replaced. Please suggest a course of action. I do have space to set up a separate tank for these.

Bigsink,

I am sad to hear that, but I'm glad that you found the pest (problem). It Is not a chemistry or a physics problem (i.e. groundprobe) - as you now know.

Fact is AEFW don't impact Super man Montis and other types of corals you mentioned paling out/not doing well. Now that you know your tank is NOT pest free (Let's face it, none are), you should accept that you have several pests present and plan accordingly. I reccomend you begin making plans for a treatment QT system.

The good news is that although it may take a while to put together a QT system, in the interim, blasting weekly and weekly removing several corals and dipping them is working for me. (I remove either the worst looking ones or those not recently dipped.) Some corals came back quickly, and overall the whole systenm is improving in coloration as a whole. The dipping is working - its just not much fun.

You can go on this way for quite a while, perhaps indefineitely if you don't mind the work. So plan the on the QT system, keep your corals, and care for them, just like you would for a sick dog or cat, etc.

Bottom line is beating SPS pests is easier than beating hair algae, you just have to get in there and do it.

Ya know...I am not a know it all. Especially in this hobby. but your description of your issues was SCREAMING pests to me. Sorry it turned out to be that particular one. But now you have jut proved that no matter who's tank you think is absolutely clean and pest free...chances are it probably aint!

Good luck with the comeback! I'm sure it will end up even better than before when you're done.

Hey Chris,

Sorry to hear about the AEFW. But that doesn't explain the Monti issues. I know I've read in Zeovit systems, people watch for fading monti caps to determine if their Potassium "K" is low....just a shot in the dark.

Sorry to hear that John. At least you caught in the early stages of the tank, not that its a good thing but it seems like it would be a bit easier to fight with frags than with colonies.
