Only skimmer is actually just fine. Your live rock (or even your dry rock rock once established) will provide all of the bio filtration you need. The skimmer will actually provide some mechanical as well and so won't your filter feeding corals. Ditch that filter. If you want additional mechanical filtration. Consider something like filter socks for your drain or even an external canister filter that you remove when not in use.
I agree that the rock work in the tank will act as the primary filter once it is established. The power filter may be used to run carbon or used as the occasional polishing filter. Another good use for it would be for a Quarantine tank.
