I believe my 75 is crashing. Advice

Would the salinity being that high affect the water's properties enough so as to cause the previously used skimmer not to skim properly? I mean, I have nitrates less than 5 usually and I get skimmate every day.

if you are worried about your bacteria colonies, get a cup of live sand from someone else's tank to either reseed your tank or for a mininum to help give you biodiversity.

And as far as bringing down your slainity, do it slowly. 5gals at a time it not slow at all. I would do 1/2 gal or 1 gal at a time at the most. If you want to do more, wait at leat an hour or two before doing another 1/2gal or so. Do you have a means of measuring the salinity yourself?

All I have is that deep six hydrometer thing. That is all I was told I needed when I started this damn tank two years ago. I am getting so tired of finding out everything I was told to do by the people I thought were there to help me was all bull crap. I'm getting very tired of fighting one thing after another. Solving one problem just to see another pop up that is even worse than the one I just dealt with. I'm sorry, It has been a very upsetting day. Don't be suprised if you all see a alot of free ads posted soon.

Sit back and take a deep breath, Rena. Heh...because of getting a bit careless with my water changes on my 10 gal it got a little nasty, so right now I'm in the middle of draining the entire tank and refilling with new sand and water. :D Have been busy so I have to do this in the middle of the freaking night.

somebody has a refractometer for $20 on the SEASL board.

Anyways, just relax we'll get your tank straightened out. It probably onlt needs a couple small tweeks. Everyone here is here to help.

Hey I've killed plenty if it makes you feel any better! Don't worry, over time you'll have that tank you dreamed of.. Gotta take the good with the bad.

Thanks all!!! Shooter hows things going on your end. Did you find you little guy yet? Maybe he and my shrimp all ran off the St. Louis.
Buy the way-If anyone see's a 7 to 8 inch CoralBanded shrimp running around with 3 cleaners, and a few snails, Shooters fish might be leading the escape. Let us know.:eek1:

No, I have not found him. Very much a bummer as he was a very cool fish, alot of fun to watch. He would flash those colorful fins and turbo across the tank. Still don't have a clue what happened. Right now I'm still in the middle of this 10gal project and trying not to kill anything from it.
